400 series OMC question, Cables specifically on Sterndrive.

Does anyone have a thread on how to change the two cables that go from the sterndrive to the engine . Care to share? I just recently purchased a 400 series that has the cables cut at the top . It appears someone crimped wires to the wires but they are no longer attached only the clamps are still there. I would rather attach new ones off my old lower unit than take a chance of them breaking.

Also in the pics you may notice my old one had the 3 oil filll plugs and the water (muffs) spot on the lower end now the new one has only 1 oil fill spot and the muffs are on the very bottom of the sterndrive. Notice in the pics its at the bottom of the wing. Does this make a difference?

Lastly there is a sting ray hydrofoil stabilizer on the old one should I re attach to the new one or leave off? Is it a big deal?

Thanks all responses will be loved and appreciated from all.

So 1 Cables from sterndrive to engine DYI
2 The oil fill plugs from 3 to 1 ?
3 The stabolizer on the back sting ray. (black plastic)
4 Will I be able to use this 400 in place of the broken 400?
5. I almost forgot the water intake placement. One on bottom other on side.

the one on the right is electric shift, not a 400.
different animal
it has electrical wires, not a cable like the 400 pictured on the left

looks like the electric shift one is just a lower - so no w/p shaft in there.

nothing is the same in the two lower units. not even the oil

sometimes the uppers swap, except...:
it looks like the electric shift unit you have there is high profile- 4" longer from ball gear to prop shaft (hard to tell from the pic)

you really have 1 apple and 1 orange there

take it back to whoever told you it is a 400- it aint

Thanks for the info!! I bought the dang thing for 50 buicks at an estate sale on a pallet made for holding it upright and wrapped in shrinkwrap. I think ill just use the top and sell the bottom hell the bottom with gears and prop should fetch my investment back.
H.S. thanks for the info ill keep you posted with results, hope to have it running friday.
