Does anyone know the wiring sequence/positions for a 402 40hp Merc stator, part #398-5255?
I have attempted to repair wires that broke so close to the stator that I was unable to tell which wire was which. I separated the "buds", cleaned them, and soldered new wires to each.
If you were to flip the stator upside-down, there are 4 wires. I've search and examined picture after picture on the internet but was unable to determine how it was done.
I've attached a drawing that shows the 4 "buds. Anyone know which is which? I think there were 2 yellow, 1 red, and 1 black/blue.

I think you will need to ohm test them to tell for sure which one is what color.

Laddies,
Appreciate the response...But my problem is that I don't know which of the wires will go where.
Theoretically, I could have soldered 4 white wires instead of trying to keep the colors correct, but I still wouldn't know where the wires connect. The wires were so brittle that, as I tried to place them back together in a bundle to make an educated guess, the shielding crumbled like stale bread. The picture I attached was used in hopes that someone would respond telling me wire #1 goes to____, wire #2 goes to ____, etc. Have you got any ideas?

2 of the 4 wire's should read to ground they are the red and blue, the wire that should be red should read 3500 to 5500 ohms, the wire that should be blue should read 450 to 550 ohms the 2 that don't read to ground are the alternator wires (yellow) and should read to one another.
