We are considering picking up this 2000 16ft SmokerCraft with a 1998 40hp Johnson.

Boat is in excellent shape considering it's age.
The 40hp Johnson already has the oil injection deleted. So, runs pre-mix like our 25hp Evinrude on our current 16ft Crestliner.
The SmokerCraft is way more plush, for a fishing boat, than our bare bones Crestliner. Perhaps too much carpet, but overall may be a nice boat upgrade for us.

Who has experience with the 1998 40hp Johnson? Or this model SmokerCraft?

No experience with the specific motor (or hull), but might be good to do a compression check before buying. If the VRO was changed due to a problem, good to see if there was any damage from lack of lube at some point. (good idea to get a compression test anyway, just as a general condition check.)

Great advise, but now it's a non-issue. I went to buy it, on my lunch break, and missed it by less than 1/2 hour.:grumpy: Wasn't meant to be, I guess.

We'll just keep rocking the Crestliner.:encouragement:
