On most, it is on the transom swivel bracket, facing the rear of the motor. On the right side, when viewed from the rear.<br /><br />Shown here: Serial Number Locator

If yours is missing that serial # plate(like mine was), then look on the side of the motor for a little round aluminum piece(looks like a quarter) sunk into the head. Its on the side right around the corner from the spark plugs(at least mine was). It has the serial # stamped on it. Not sure if that thing is on all motors but its worth a shot. Then you can either post the SN on here and find out the info. Or you can also call Mercury and give them the serial #, and they can tell you year, HP, model #d, and alot of other stuff about your engine.
