I have a 1989 40hp Ser# OC202880. I have the single ram set-up mounted under the transom bracket. the unit leaks down and sometimes has a little trouble going up. I'm thinking its the seals in the cylinder. Can anyone tell me the part # for the seal kit? I'm having trouble finding it. Thanks.

813432A3 is the old number and I think its NLA. That trim has always had problems....

Re: 40HP Merc PTT question

if it will stay in place when fully lifted but bleeds down if lifted less than halfway then it is trim spool (item 7 in the following diagram). Mercury part # 811226A1

if it drifts down when fully lifted then it is probably pump assembly (item 8 ). mercury part # 8116706

if it drifts down and also has problems locking up when going down by trim motor then it is probably the relief valve (item 15). mercury part # 813442A2.

If you or your mechanic are not in the mood to mess with it then there is a mail in rebuild service on Ebay that rebuilds all hydraulics from pump to piston.

RRitt It has a problem building pressure when you first hit the button, but once it gets pressure it works great. It will bleed down from any position, but will go right up again.
