40hp Mercury price

I am looking into a 40hp mercury approximately a 1986 with steering controls, power trim, good running order, oil injected as you can tell from the pics. I was just curious to see what a good offer on a motor like this would be. I dont want to get ripped off nor do I really wanna rip the guy off as well. Any help would be appriciated

$900-1200, trim n tilt is a big plus.

That's very good to know. We just bought a boat with that same motor on it last night for $1,500. The boat is a 16' Fisher aluminum bass boat also with a trolling motor & 2 batteries. Very good condition. The only problem is the motor won't go in reverse most of the time. Any ideas on what could be wrong & if it's something we could fix ourselves.
