Hello all,
well it's that time of year again. The weather is getting nice and the Lady of the Lake is calling.
I have a 2002 40HP 2 Stroke Merc on my pontoon boat. The motor starts right away with no problems. Then it starts to smoke. Not to bad, but more then it should. It continues to smoke when put back to neutral and the idle stays at 1700rpm.
when I put it in gear it continues to smoke for about 3 minutes. After that the smoke stops and everthing is normal. Until I put it back in neutral and the idle goes back up to 1700rpm.
Is the smoke and the high idle the same problem? Should I just dial down the idle and go with that? Or could these be the warning signs of something larger?
