Need to know if this engine needs to be put in base timing mode using the shunt. Can't seem to find it in the book, but my diag software gives me a base timing mode option. Thanks.

Yes, it needs to be in base timing/service mode to set the timing. 10? BTDC

Ok thanks Don. Is it better to use the shunt or go through the ECU? I have the ScanWorld MarineScan diag tool....never used it for this purpose, normally I just use the shunt.

OK Thanks Don. Which manual should I be using in the boat info library? I'm having some other issue with the engine and can't seem to find the book I need.

Also...in the instructions you have posted it says to remove the "blind plug"...mine actually have a harness clipped into it, does that change things?

Re: 415DPX timing

Forget timing like a carbed engine, and that is where all that "blind plug" info is coming from.

The engine you have is EFI and doesn't use the same methods. You need the BY model EFI Diagnostic manual from Boat info.
