:confused:Hi: I just joined the site today . My name is Vincent and I bought a 45 hp Chrysler motor last week from a young man:confused: who said it needs a water impeller. The model # is 45631 and the serial # is 2484 . I got these numbers off of a metal plate located under the hood riveted to the inside lower motor cowling. I would like to find out what year this motor is and find a place to buy a new water impeller for it. Any info at all would be very helpfull and appreciated . The motor was mounted on a boat and the controls were all connected . I turned the key and the motor turned over fine. The guy that I bought it from said that he had it in the water this past summer and had it running fine but it wasn't pumping any water out so he shut it down and put it up for sale. I'm the lucky guy that gave him a $100 for boat motor and trailer. Then I paid him $20 to tow it fifty miles to my home. I junked the 14ft Columbian fiberglass boat and kept the motor and trailer. That's my story . I hope to hear from someone soon. Thank for reading ! Happy Holidays !

Hello Noah 4009 , You are a gentleman and I thank you very much for the info ! Knowing what year it is certainly makes it easier to look for the right parts. I noticed that you are in Florida , lucky you ! I am sitting out a 13 inch snow storm in Mass.! I have been restoring a 1963 Old town 16 1/2 ft runabout for the last two years . I don't have a heated garage to work on it during these winter months. I also have a 1959 Lonestar 14 ft malibu that I am restoring. I have a 1958 Johnson big twin 35hp to go on it. I just bought a 1972 aluminum Starcraft 16 ft for my grandsons as they like to water ski. I am hoping that the chrysler 45 hp will have enough power to pull them. Well, thanks again for the help and have a happy holiday ! Vincent;)

Re: 45 hp chrysler

I had an old 45hp chrysler on the back of a 1959 owens 14' fiberglass runabout. Top speed for my old boat was about 25mph with me and a buddy or a couple of kids. I never tried to pull a skier but I dragged a tube around. I had to replace the shiftdog in the lower unit because it would jump out of gear. I found a parts motor which really saved me some bucks. As i recall that motor carried a couple different brand names, Sorry I can't remember them. I think one was westinghouse? Maybe not. Anyhow the only other problem that I had was the starter would vibrate loose all the time, loktite, rubber washers, nothing helped much. I have a lot of great memories of that old package. Good luck with it!

Re: 45 hp chrysler

Hi Guy, thanks for the feedback . If the old washmachine won't get the kids out of the water pushing the 16 ft aluminum starcraft then I will put on my 1963 Old Town 16ft runabout . The Old Town has red cedar lapsrtake with a mahoganey deck. I am 60 years old and can lift the transom end of the boat off the trailer with no problem. I wouldn't try that with the deep v hull of the boat but I would bet that it weighs less than a 14 ft fiberglass boat. The Starcraft weighs in at 526 lbs empty. If that 45 Chrysler just gets my Old Town up on plane I'll be plenty happy . Just restored the whole boat and I won't be pulling any water skier's with it . It's for cruiseing only ! That's why I bought the grandkids the Starcraft.
Happy Holidays to all !!!

Re: 45 hp chrysler

HI
I recently aquired a 1977 starcraft 15 1/2 feet. It came with a Chrysler 55HP 1971. I never owned a boat. It is my winter project. I knew nothing from nothing about boats. It did not run and the inside of the boat needs some work. With the help of guys here like Frank and eurolarva just to name a couple. I got it running and am doing the LU now. These guys here will show you and instruct you on how to do or repair anything on your boat. But first they will tell you to get the service, parts and electrical manual on your boat. Well good luck and happy boating. Merry Christmas to all.
