I had to tear down a lower unit and put the shift fork back in place. The gear that is fartherest away from the prop had to be pressed off of the prop shaft. The thrust washer between the gear and the 'dog' looked rolled over just a tad ( a texas word meaning just a little bit). The brass bushing inside the bearing/gear assy looke to swollen, as if it was squeezed down against the thrust washer. Being way out in the sticks (another tx word meaning far away from any sign of civilization),I used scotch bright to clean it up enough to rotate on the prop shaft. Is this gear supposed to be tight?
