I was wondering what I should be getting for voltages. My alt is the 3 wire v belt. my motor is a 88 454.

Im reading 12.4v and as the rpms increase it will get up over 13v, the more rpm the higher it goes.

Does that seem normal? It doesnt seem like it charges enough at idle speeds.

I usually am mooring for long periods of time and I was idling up and down the canal to charge it back up.. I discovered my theory has a hole in it though.

not really, 13.6-14.6 is the normal reading at idle or just above.remove it and have it checked by a starter/alternator shop.

If your batteries are really low, and you are just idling around then you won't see much charge (If any). Raise the rpm up to 1200 to 1500 rpm and it will charge quicker and eventually get up to 14 volts. But still not full charge output at that rpm either.
