Does anyone know if the seat from a 1947 5hp Johnson Seahorse can be replaced? It doesn't look like it can be removed. I have replaced the needle and float since I was having trouble with the motor flooding (and gas coming out of the top of the carb). I no longer have gas pouring out, but the motor still floods easily. I have also tinkered with the the lean/rich knob, but to no avail. I am fairly inexperienced at working on old outboards, so perhaps I am missing something that someone can explain. Thanks!

Re: '47 Johnson Seahorse Carb Problems

If I remember right, the brass needle had to seal against an aluminum seat in the carb. Years ago we used valve lapping compound on the taper of the needle to reform the sealing area in the aluminum that would get corroded.
