470=bad, what about 485's

looking at a boat with a 485, 1984, 400 and some hours. Were any of the things the are problems with the 470 better with the 485, or is it the same with different carbs. does it have the 4" heat exchanger.<br /><br />thanks

Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />Same motor with a 4-barrel. Should have the 4" by 84, but measure it. 4" diameter looks the diameter of a coffee can. 3" looks more like a soup can.

Later 4cyl 3.8 litre engines (all horespowers) were fitted with 5" heat exchangers, from Stillwater.<br /><br />Chris...........
