470 Rocker covers all the same?

I'm trying to find a new rocker cover for my 1987 Merc 470. I have found a site selling them for 1976-1979, but aren't they all based on the same ford head? Wouldn't they all be the same regardless of year? Here is the link to the one I found:

They are different. There are threaded bosses on the newer valve cover for cable attachements. There is even 2 different kinds in the 76 to 79 range.

Thanks for the reply Don. I don't have any cables attached to mine at all (I assume something happened to the attachments when the previous owner had it). Do you know if that's the only difference? If so then it should work for me right? I'm having a heck of a time finding this cover and I'd be more than happy to have one that works fine even if I can't attach my cables to it.

They appear to be different, but the gasket part numbers (27-73666) and the cover part numbers are the same (41-638a1) are the same, so they should all fit. Mine is an 87 too and it does not have the boss for the cable anchor. You might drop a line to "Breezeworks", they have a lot of 470 stuff, or one of your local marinas might have an old one laying around for parts. Good luck.

I'm still on my quest to find a replacement valve cover. I've located a source for Ford 460 valve covers. Does anyone know a reason that this SHOULDN'T work?

Have you watched Ebay at all? That's where I picked one up for my 470. There's always 470 parts listed and there's a valve cover listed on there now.
