81 470, has been behaving itself so far this summer, went out today to give it a once over, oil, coolant etc to be sure we're good for tomorrow, I realize the #7, second from the rear and has a lifiting eye on it, is hanging out of the manifold several inchs, I pulled it out and the end is broke off! I then looked around and figured out that the aftmost bolt, #8 if you will, is GONE! Just hole in the manifold....
Could these have been this way very long? Would I get exhaust or raw water into the doghouse from this?
Can I babysit this and try to get through the rest of the season?

no water connection exists between the intake/exaust manifolds and engine blocks.
improper tightening sequence or improper torque will snap the stud or bolt in those engines.

How risky is it to try and run like this? It may have been that way a while, I've never touched them and bought the boat this last winter, hoping to get by the next month or so then fix this and other issues over the winter

If the exhaust manifold gasket blows in that area, it will get louder, and will be a dead give away it's blown. I wouldn't recommend running her after the gasket is blown. Try and finish the year on it if you wish but I would keep it well away from WOT, and order your gasket to do the repair, as well as the proper length bolts.

It would probably only take a few hours to fix it depending on where the bolt is broken. If it's flush with the head, can get ugly quick.

Hopefull enough is sticking out of the head after you remove the rest of the bolts and exh. mani. where you could unscrew it with a small pipe wrench or vise grips, or weld a nut on the end and use a socket.

I'm going to get a bolt same size and try and see if the #8 is just missing and can be replaced, doubtful but maybe, then atleast Id just be missing the one. We don't do much WOT so we'll baby her along and check on it frequently, it's not like we go open ocean around here, just don't want to make matters alot worse.

if its any consolation I just removed mt log style and its a job of 2 hrs max.

if yours is cast - dont separate the risewr from the mani or you may not get it to seal again without a skim.

Should have seen the state of my old one.
