Was just installing a new impeller on a 1995? 4hp 2 stroke mercury. The new Impeller fit over the shaft very snug. Got it slid down and went to put the housing over the impeller and the impeller fins are to wide to fit. They are about 1/16th inch to wide. Am I supposed to bend them a little to get the housing to fit over it? The old fin (one that was left) looks like it may have fit the same being it is completely rubbed off on one side. Or, is it supposed to fit over the impeller without touching. Thanks

What is your engine s/n?

The impeller fits snugly in the housing with the tips of the fins curved in a CCW direction when looking down on the impeller as the driveshaft rotates in a CW direction.

Here is a link to a picture but bear in mind that this picture is with the housing removed from the installed position. Use some Vaseline to lube the fins to make installation into the housing easier.

Thanks Gerry

I'm not seeing the link you posted? The S/N is OD977617. I used that number to reference from mercury marine parts list. Then ordered the part from this site.
So, hoping I have the right part, lube it up and slightly bend each fin in a CCW position to fit the housing over it? Thanks

Would help of course if I had posted the link:

https://www.google.ca/search?q=pict...ww.leeroysramblings.com%2FOMC_9.5.htm;673;896

That s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 4 H.P. (1995 ))
Serial No: 0D977617 Model No: 1004201RK

Parts list for model 1004201RK:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/547.cfm

The service manual you require is P/N: 90-17308R02. Thought I might have that one but it appears not. Here are a few at good prices:

Thanks again Gerry

It all makes sense now. Now its time to tear the carb down

That is the correct part number for the impeller I purchased

Thanks for the manual references as well
