I've stupidly dismantled the fuel pump on my early 1970s Yachtwin, without noting everything down...My manuals have no exploded views of the fuel pump which both tell me that this is a replacement item - I have the gaskets, diaphrams and 75% of the jigsaw, but does anyone know where I can get the info / diagrams to double check?

Hi Chirombo
There are no diagrams for this. The reason, you have already stated. It is a replacement part, not ment to serviced. Best bet, buy a new one. The good news is that they are not that expencive as outboard parts go.

Any Johnson/Evinrude dealer will have that simple pump cheap. They were the same on many small motors..

Hello.
In the Seloc volume 1 there are pictures of the only fuel pump that can be taken apart and rebuild.I am not sure if it is simular to yours, but it probably is your best bet.
Rolmops.

Chirombo,
There may be a rebuild kit available for your fuel pump, and if so it will have good pictures.
BUT for the labor involved, most shops (including mine)replace the whole pump.Kits are around $20 and pumps around $49.With a shop rate of even$50...figure it out.Buy a new pump.
And WOW,aren't those springs and valves real small in your pump?
DHPMARINE

Re: 4HP YACHTWIN FUEL PUMP

Thanks to all for the help. Have the Clymer manual and my 9.5HP service manual, both of which say the same thing. Here in the UK people take these engines down to the refuse sites to chuck them away, as few are interested in rebulding them and finding spares can be a nightmare. I do all the work, so they're really a labour of love - however coils are typically anything from $50 to $60 each and are not off the shelf parts, hence the chance of finding a fuel pump here is limited. Boy, did I laugh at the number of tiny, tiny springs and spring bases and all the gaskets and diaphrams and other bits and pieces...until the cold light of a frosty day....My thanks to you all regardless.

Chirombo,

Another contribution to your quest. You could try Andy Clarke's UK website. www.bosunsmate.co.uk.

Go to "Articles", then to "Living with a Johnson 4 Part 2" You'll find detailed instructions and a thumbnail diagram that you can click on to enlarge. This will give you a clear diagram showing all the parts in their correct orientation.

You can order a fuel pump from here for 46.00 US, plus shipping. Might be more than you want to spend, but...

web page
