Well, here's one that I witnessed (just saw the police boats out looking for someone, didn't actually see the guy..)

http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Man-dies-in-Westport-boating-accident-564644.php

That was Friday..

Saturday night we tied up with about 10 boats.

Just as the 10th was tying up we see two swimmers in the water screaming "HELP HELP HELP" as they were being swept away from their tiny 10 foot skiff. They were about 100 -200 feet behind it with a current of a few mph taking them away..

Our 10th boat that wasn't tied up yet quickly motored over and threw them life preservers and got them back to their boat.

Usual story, 1 girl on the boat, 2 guys, all drunk, showing off for girl..... not even ONE life preserver on the actual boat.

What a bunch of morons!

Next was on the way in, we had a 40 foot cruiser pass us at at least 20 knts.

I don't care if you have radar or not, you shouldn't be doing that in a channel full of small boats heading in.

On the good side.

We had an excellent time, I met so many new people and we were the biggest raft party out there!

I only had 2 half glasses of wine - as the police were ALL over everyone.....had some great food and the fireworks were the best I've ever seen in my town!

Here's some pics from the night!

The guy who got us all together: Very nice man!! My family and female friend off to the left on my boat:

Another nice view of the boats off our Starboard:

The kiddos up top had the best view out of anyone for the fireworks!!

Our local state park doesn't have fireworks, we had seen a nice display on saturday night, so hit the lake Sunday evening and man was it deserted, the holiday boaters must have been all tuckered out, we skied and everything had the lake to ourselves.

Lost my skag during the day and we were planning on watching the fireworks from the river that flows under the bridge we ended up standing on. I wish we would have taken a boat, the traffic was horrible!

I did film the fireworks, while the RPO played Stars and Stripes Forever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDZnPBUNyNg

Spent the last 6 days at Shenango Reservoir here in NW PA. I can't remember better weather for the 4th.

The Good:

And the bad, (at least for those who didn't have the boat in all week!)
This is the main launch at the lake, these were taken at about 3 pm on the 4th.
If you can believe it, it got even worse later,

I sat out there for an hour and watched the chaos. Lots of laughs .

Thajeffski..... where on earth do you boat? Is the water temp in the 30's or something? I've never seen so many people with clothes on (instead of bathing suits), in a boat. Or, maybe I'm just spoiled living in the south that I think that it should be hot everywhere by now.

Edit: never mind, I see the CT on the registration.

I would love to post pics of my 4th of July, but taking a picture of my desk at work didn't cross my mind. :( Working all day on the 4th pretty much stunk!

phoenix...

Consider yourself lucky at that amount of traffic at the launch site, down here in Miami that would be considered empty on a non Holiday Saturday, much less a Holiday Sunday . (One day I will remember to take a pic and post).

One of the things that is amazing to me is how boating areas are so different all over, ramp setup, traffic, etiquette etc etc. I would be thrilled to come back to retrieve my boat and see that amount of boats. LOL.

Glad the rest of you had great boating on 4th of July, sadly enough here in S. Florida the weather was horrific this weekend so no boating whatsoever.

Yes, you are right. It's all relative to what you are used to. This ramp, even being the main lunch on the lake, is rarely this busy. I feel lucky to have such a well-maintained ramp (for just a $3 fee) only 12 miles from my house.

My 4th of july conclusion is that I will be selling my bayliner. While my friends were boating comfortably on a 23' wellcraft, there I was being jarred, jerked, and pounded all over.

The good that comes out of this is that I still had a blast in all other respects!!! Fireworks, the people I got to be with, and the food!!!

I do have lots of pics of the water, just no why to hot link them. Webshots I don't beleive work that way.

Re: 4th of July 2010 - Tell us your stories! (post pics!)

I discovered a leaking and damaged water pump on the port engine as I was warming them up to go out at 9pm. :(

There was no way I was going to head out into that zoo with a 12-knot wind with only one engine.

Unfortunately, 8 people were on their way to our slip.

Fortunately, we could see three fireworks shows from the marina. Then, as if on our command, a private show started directly across the river from the marina. They must have spent $10,000 on that show. It was wonderful!

Best part: After it was over I didn't have to deal with 500 boats running in all directions at all speeds in the darkness.

ThaJeffski, The pictures look great! We went down the CT River to Dock and Dine Sunday, and intended to go out Monday. Had a couple issues and stayed home and used the pool/deck/grill etc...

I missed out on boating this past weekend, but know that it's also known for accidents, with so many irregulars out there. The result was that my neighbor's brother "borrowed" his boat, and wrecked it out on the water against something. As a result, I now have a possible OMC engine and drive assembly for my backup. I tend to stick to the regular weekends for boating, when the crazy's are doing what they normally are doing elsewhere. :)
