Ok guys, I am going to try to give some history here instead of these small posts looking for a quick solution. Please read this and think about what my problem could be. I did confirm the dipstick is OEM.
Upon arrival to buy the boat, I checked the oil via the dipstick and it was perfect. Ran the boat hard before buying and oil pressure was just fine.
The very next day, I head to the lake and check the oil after launch and warm up. The dipstick has no oil on it whatsoever. I add 2 quarts, run it for an hour or two, oil pressue just fine so I don't worry that much about it.
I get home to find that the oil is overfilled by about the amount I added. I decided to just change the oil to make sure all is ok prior to the next weekend. Drained via the dipstick pump and got out at lease 5 quarts. I add 5.5 quarts and a new filter, run the engine and oil dipstick indicates just the right amount of oil in the engine.
So, again this weekend, I check the oil in the driveway and all is a-ok. Ran it for 30 minutes on the muffs to monitor oil and temp. I jet to the lake and after a full day of tubing, etc, I run out of gas. Although I was VERY certain it was out of fuel, I opened the hatch to check the oil. The dipstick is dry, no oil at all. I freak out, thanking our good Lord that I ran out of as when I did as it appeared I was out of oil. (I did wait 5 minutes to ensure all oil was back on the pan. I add 2.5 quarts of oil and trailer it. (once I got fuel anyway). I get home, check the oil and I am over capacity by the same amount i added.
So today I decide to level the engine perfectly in the driveway. I used a level and verified its accuracy. Well, I change the oil again in the driveway. Pulled the little drain hose from the oil pan out of the bildge drain and open it up. It trickles out maybe 2/3 or a quart of oil. I am thinking "UH OH....where is all my oil? I guess I do have a big leak afterall." I decide, to be sure, to jack up the nose just a tad and ..............out comes the balance of the oil, including the extra I added!
Should I just ignore this issue and realy on oil pressure and the alarm while on the water....just be sure my levels look right on the trailer? Hard for me to do that as everything I read says I should get an accurate reading on the dipstick while on the water.
I am stumped and frustutated to the MAX. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Maybe I am over thinking this.
