I am buying a boat soon and have decided on the Glastron 205, I am looking for opinions on the 5.0l efi (270hp) available in the 06' and 07' for sure. I know the 5l carb (220hp) is rock solid but I really like fuel injection. Are there any known problems with the efi models? I searched pretty hard for direct comparisons but couldn't find any

Re: 5.0 Carb vs 5.0 EFI

I've had the same engine in both variants. I prefer the EFI, better on fuel, more power and torque. The main disadvantage is unless you have the right diagnostic tools, like the computer or scan tool, you will be struggling when it comes to repairing it. I splashed out and bought the computer program and connection harnesses Yes, it cost $700, but it was worth every cent and I'm very glad I did....

Is it just ODB-II like cars are today? If so, there's a $100 cable you can buy for an iPhone from GoLink (http://www.amazon.com/goPoint-Technology-OBD-II-Accessory-iPhone/dp/B00336S7KS) that will read sensor values in realtime & display codes/meanings.

On the efi engines what kind of problems are you having? What age was the engine?

Re: 5.0 Carb vs 5.0 EFI

I picked up a 205 Glastron with the Fuel injected 5.0, We took a test drive and the boat was easily going 60mph with a stainless steel prop. I am thinking about going back to the stock aluminum one for holeshots, Tubing and hauling around more people.

Any thoughts on prop choice for a 205 Glastron with 270hp?

This should be in a new thread in the props section.

Depends on where you'll be doing your boating, if there is lots of sunken timber and rock, stick to aluminum, your lower unit will thank you the first time you hit something. A stainless prop while great for hole shot and top end will result in a lot of damage to your lower unit if you hit something.
