Hi

After drain the Synthetic Gearcase Lubricant (SX-M Drive) the oil color appears yellow / milk (Fig 1).
I removed the Drive, that?s slide away easily, and found a small amount of water in the U-Joint Bellow.
One week later the oil changes the color and appears a white residue. What?s this white residue?
Bellow Failed? ( 4 years) I wash the drive and bellows with high pressure water machine, which could damage the bellows?
Insufficient torque?
I will send the drive to the shop to replace the bellows because I?m not able to perform this job.
Thanks Almeida

What?s this white residue?

From the 4th pic I think your in salt water, and that white is probably salt water, in any case its heavier then oil

Time to pressure and vac test the gearcase. I would also lean on replacing the U joint bellows, why take the chance with water getting in there. Small repair now to avoid big $$ down the line.

Yes, I use the boat in salt water, so I understand that the white residue is probably salt water.
I plan this year to replace the U joint bellows.
Concerning the pressure and vac test the gearcase, I have to learn about this because I don?t know how to perform this.
Thanks

Ok, in order to perform the pressure test the drive should be empty of oil? or could have oil inside?

Empty, air can make it thru a seal easier then oil. This way you can also use soap to find the leak around the seals

No more water than you have in your drive oil my bet is that you got water in the bellows and this water seeped past the driveshaft seal in your drive. That seal is designed to keep oil in but not necessarily water out. I would pressure test the drive to remove all doubt, but wouldn't be surprised if the drive holds pressure. Definitely change the bellows. I would also consider filling the drive with the cheapest 75-85/90 gear oil I could find and run the engine on the hose a couple minutes to circulate the oil through the drive and flush any remaining water out of any nooks and crannies before it has a chance to corrode anything. Then drain the cheap stuff and refill with your usual good quality gear oil.

Definitely I will change the bellows.

I already fill the drive with gear oil and after I drain it, and refill with new oil.
