My great eBay deal on Chaparral 215 SSi has turned into a nightmare. Not a single day on the water with out trouble (see my previous post). My lesson from that is to never again do business with Empire Motors in Oxnard California.

As it turns out, I need the motor replaced. I'm probably going to upgrade the 5.0 to a 5.7, but here's my question... Where to buy the replacement? So far my options are:

o Blueprint Engines
o Marine Engines 4 Less
o Michigan Motorz

Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with any of these folks?

Thanks for any input

Michigan Motorz.. My NEW mechanic swears by them. I will be doing the exact same thing soon. 5.7 Carbed (no more fuel injection for me) FWC drop in turn key. I checked out the motor on line seems to be what I need. Best of luck.

Thanks for the help. I noticed they use Barr manifolds on their "Gold" package. After reading the horror stories on here about various aftermarket manifolds/risers (GLM often seems to pop up negatively) I'm a bit concerned.

Any issues with Barr?

Good luck Barry. Let me know how it goes.

By the way, what kind of boat are you replacing the motor in?

New manifolds and risers installed yesterday 8/11/2015. Ran it today motor runs strong. Port riser temp 109.5 degrees stbd riser temp was 114.7 degrees. Five degrees difference is a lot better than 55 degrees. It seems that the previous owner changed the port manifold but not the stbd. When I bought it the parts changer said the risers need to be changed but the manifolds were okay. Not sure how he came to THAT conclusion with out taking manifolds off (live and learn) the port manifold showed some signs of deterioration. the stbd was shooting rust flakes into my new clean riser. Now they are the same on both sides.

Here is a quick question when flushing out the motor with Salt Away. How long should the motor run?

I switched the valve to the garden hose intake connected the salt away adapter. Turned on the water started the motor and watched until the exhaust water ran clear (about 4 or 5 minutes boat is in a wet slip, so the salt away shows a cloudy exhaust), then shut the motor down turned off the hose returned the valve to sea water intake. When I shut the motor down I saw my temp was about 180 degrees. I guess because the hose is less volume than the seawater intake.

Should I shut down the flush as soon as I see the cloudy exhaust start leaving salt away in the system?
