5.0 mercrusier stalls any advice?

i have a 93 caravelle with a mercruiser 5.0 with 450 hours. the boat starts right up and i put it in reverse to get away from the dock then drive to take off.(no problems) my issue is when i slow down and put it in natural the boat stalls. it won't restart in neutral I have to put it in neutral with a little gas. it runs fine and I can give it gas no problems but when I put it back to neutral to so i can put it in drive it stalls.
any advice on what i should look for?

i have replaced the fuel filter and the carb was rebuilt last year.

What outdrive? If Alpha, it could be a bad shift cable holding the shift interrupt switch closed for too long and allowing the engine to die.

Tied to the dock with the engine running and in reverse. Have someone shift to neutral while you watch the shift plate that activates the shift interrupt switch and see if after going into neutral the shift interrupt switch is still activated.

Ayuh,... Look at the shift plate/ shift switch, 'n see if it's returning to center...

The boat will stall when its out of the water. I tried it with the muffs on in the driveway. If I read your post right I Prouble have another issue because it is doing it out of the water. Am I correct for thinking this way. Any other ideas?

If it's out of the water and does it too, it's probably still the same thing.
