5.0L MPI Bravo III Q’s

First day out in my new to me ‘05 Searay 240SD. Ran great. Few Q’s:

-what’s redline? Didn’t see in owners manual or on flame arrestor.

-Cruising around 30mph seemed like I had to hold the steering wheel to left. Not noticeable or pronounced at slow speeds. Is this torque steer from props? I thought B3 with counter rotating props didn’t have this. Normal or should I be concerned?

-I changed oil when I bought at very end of last year. Driveway has a bow high slant. I thought I drained every last drop and refilled to capacity (forgot amount but I looked it up). Now at its home in the water, oil seems overfilled by about the same amount as the length of the crosshatched add section. I’m thinking the oil drain hose didn’t drain from back of oil pan as I assumed. Oil is clean as a whistle. Since it’s in for the season, how bad is this? I know in theory I could aerate the oil with extra windage but a boat is bouncing all over anyway. Worry about it or just don’t do it again next time?

Ayuh,..... A quart over full is enough to blow seals,.... a quart under is safe,....

That's why I dump in 4 qts., start it check for leaks, 'n then fill only to the full line, regardless the amount in the bottle,....

4800 rpms at Wot is safe for any of our motors,....

You cant over-rev an MPI motor, the ecm wont let you. WOT RPM is 5000

I’ll suck the oil out. Having hard time comprehending how extra crankcase oil can blow seals but I know the dynamics of oil whipping around a crank are pretty wild. On the surface, the only pressure in the pan should be a little blow-by that should be vented or vacuumed out. Pressurized oil is limited by oil pump pressure relief regardless of volume. Either way, I’ll do the right thing.

i guessed redline was around 4800 but hate guessing.

You cant over-rev an MPI motor, the ecm wont let you. WOT RPM is 5000

so factory rev limiter even if you were to change props or vent the prop? Cool.

An 05 MPI MAX WOT is 5000 rpm
Torque steer is either the steering ram is not adjusted correctly or is worn
