5.5 1958 CD 15 LU will it fit 1955 7.7 hp 7518 1955

I was wondering if the LU off 5.5 1958 CD 15 1958 Johnson will fit my 1955 7.5 evinrude model7518

Yes it should, as long as both motors are short shaft or long shaft. The mid sections are the same, year for year on the 7.5 and 5.5, but both were re-designed in 1956. The lower units remained the same though.

If there is any difference, the upper driveshafts MAY be slightly different lengths between the '55 & prior and '56 & later lower units...

Yea, in that case, I would just use the drive shaft that goes in the motor it's in. All you have to do, to accomplish this, is remove the impeller housing and it lifts right out. Below the lower water pump housing, you'll see the upper bearing hub and below that is the shock absorber that the upper drive shaft drops into. Funny that this thread should come up, because I also have a 1955 CD-12 and I have a 1958 Evinrude, but it too is a 5.5, versus a 7.5. :D I had to make sure both of my motrs were still in the shed after reading this post. LOL

Funny thing is Steve, some guys here have so many motors, that they wouldn't miss two of these for six months. :D:D
