5.5 evinrude impeller

Do I really have to pull the powerhead on this engine to change the impeller.. I read somewhere that you had to even though its between the upper and lower unit??????

Yes - shift rod must be disconnected under the powerhead to drop the lower unit.

Ok thanks mine isn't pumping water so I've orderedd one

it's a piece of cake. it's either seven or eight bolts. (been a bit). Disconnect the fuel lines, throttle linkage, pull the bolts, crack the seal, disconnect the shift rod. Make sure you replace the powerhead base gasket and clean out all of the gunk while you're in there.
