5.5 johnson seahorse troubles.

hey. just bought a johnson 5.5 seahorse. took it out, hooked up the tank, and set it up in a garbage can of water but it wont start. the plugs are firing but there isnt any gas getting to them. is this sayin that the carbureator needs cleanin or what. the model # is cd-17 and it should be a 1960's motor. i would apreciate any suggestions or info. thanks

Your motor is a 1960.

No fuel = no go

Pick up a carburetor rebuild kit at your local OMC/BRP dealer or here at iboats. Also, you better check those coils. If they are original they will need to be replaced even if they appear to work. Here's a photo of some bad coils.

You should also change the impeller and check the lower crackcase seal that sits on top of the driveshaft.

First, go to Engine FAQs and find out for sure what is wrong.
