Hi all I have a very internally rusty 5.7 v8 1989 mercruiser with 4bb rochester carb that needs a rebuild I don't want waste my money on having this block thats been In salt water all it's life rebuilt again , so I'm after heads and a block that's come out of a car/truck that's never been anyware near any salt water my plan is to put a heat exchanger on it so it won't happen again , anyway I'm in the uk and blocks and heads are quite hard to come by here but I might have come across some heads *from a 1990 5.7 TPI Trans Am would these be ok to use , the car has done 120 thousand miles the heads have not been cleaned but look very clean if you know what I mean , they were only removed to fit some hi performance heads , they will get fully cleaned and valves re faced a light skim just for good measure , what do you lot think ?

The heads on the 5.7 Mercruiser were the same from 1983 to 1997. That said, there are quite a few different heads for the 5.7 out there. what is the casting number on your existing heads, and that of the 2 you found? That would be more useful....

The number on the new heads is 14101083
I don't it's worth checking the numbers on my old heads as they were not the original ones that came with the engine I got them
Second hand individually when they rusted though on the inside I don't even think there both the same but I was disparate to get
The boat working again and had to get what I could in a hurry "we don't have much call for v8 motors in the uk so there quite hard
To get hold of "

Thanks for that ,it looks like the new heads are 64 cc
from what I've read all original marine 350/5.7 engines upto 1997 had heads that were aprox 76cc so this means I will have a better compression ratio
Will this have a detrimental effect on a marine engine in other ways? I know that when building a none turbo engine for road use the higher
The compression the better is this the same for boat engines or could it have side effects ?
