Hallo,

My Four Winns 268 has given me absolutely no problem this summer. She stays in water from April til now and is being visited every 1-3 weeks. Never any issues - Starts up immediately, runs smoothly - no wrong noises. Meanwhile for 6 weeks I did not go due to my work but gave her a visit yesterday only. I wanted to go for a last trip before bringing her on land. I turned the key - no cranking... (The relay clicked so power is on to the starter).... tried again (kept the key on for 2 sec.) ... still no cranking. Tried again (kept the key on for another 2 sec.) and she fired up. Had difficulties to keep spinning and went off - I started her up again 2-3 times and then with a little extra RPM she kept spinning. No wrong noises..... After 15-20 sec or so everything was fine and back to normal. Had her cool off and started the engine again without any trouble.

I had full power on my batteries (they are charging while I am gone) so they are always full.

What could cause such situation ....? - Is it just because 6 weeks being too long so that the oil drains from all parts and need to be lubricated again .... I am curious if anyone has seen same ?

Thanks for a very nice forum.

It just sounds to me like it is a battery issue. Just because they are on charge doesn't mean they are charging and are good. You need to get a meter and check the voltage. I notice that you say batteries, I am assuming there are two of them. If the batteries are in fact fully charged then you need to check the connections from the batteries to the starter. But first check the battery voltage without the key turned then see what it is when you are trying to crank the motor over. Then go to cleaning up all the connections.

Hope you are right about the connections from the battery but my concern is that the engine had like 15 seconds of rough/ difficult spinning before it all was normal. Could that be the drain of oil from all parts because of the 6 weeks she was left unattended/ not used ?
