Does anybody know the correct cast# for the heads on a 1986 OMC Cobra 5.7 ltr stern drive? It appears the previous owner for my boat replaced the original heads with Chevy heads from 1976. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

76? cast and machined and assembled here in the states,86 possibly cast in mexico but assembled here. so far I have seen none from china.
most all the lower HP 5.7,5.0 and 3.0 motors I have installed in the past few years were not only cast in mexico but ALL the internal stuff is also Hechen En Mexico and is cast on the block and heads.
so much for Detroit Iron.

The problem I am having is that these 76 heads have worn valve guides, and I need to replace them either with new or remanufactured. Will I have a problem if I order the same old heads? The former owner told me that he had these heads "machined" to get them to fit.

Ayuh,...

Take them to a Machine Shop,...
They can tell you if they can replace the valve guides, or if you really need replacement heads,+ which 1s you want....
