What's the possibility of both water pumps going bad at the same time? Just received out of storage into my slip and received a call from the marina stating my impellers are both bad. I advised they were both replaced last session and was then advised they checked them and determined the housings are sucking air? This sounds very odd. Here is there email to me...These are the housings, it is all in our shop right now waiting to see what you want to do. +++* also did mention that this needs to be done but if there are still problems with air getting in the lines it may have something to do with the other flush system you have on the boat. We are not familiar with that and just letting you know what we think.
Any questions let me know.
Thank you,

Are these inboards engines with transmissions or stern drives? What year?

If the business is close to you, it might be a better idea for you to go see if they've truly removed the impeller housing already from the boat and maybe offer some advice to your engine flush system.

there is a probability of one going bad, however for both to go bad, the marina has to have done something wrong. my first thought is if these are inboards, then I would suspect that the marina tried running them with the seacocks closed, toasted the impellers and now wants you to pay for them.

2002 5.7 Horizions with twin Bravo 3's 342 Rinker with flush kit. Prior to launch batteries were dead so I'm not sure if the jumped it and dumped it or what but this isn't sitting right with me.

Not saying this is the case here but sometimes the bravo 3's have a tendency to create an air lock between the drive and the sea water pump which can give someone a false indication of a failed water pump and/or sucking air. There have been a few past forum members both here and other boating forums that have mentioned they've had to "prime" the water intake hose to get the pump to start pumping water.. Both new and old impellers. This is provided the bravo 3 drives are utilizing the lower gear housing water pickup holes on the stern drive and not a hull mounted water pickup...Some boats have been known to use both the gear housing and hull mounted water pickups. If that's the case then one of them needs to be blocked/covered if you're running the boat on land or you will suck air and destroy the impellers.

Did they send you pictures of the impellers and housings in the email?

Thank you,

The question is do you have a flushing system and if so what is it?
Next, thing and I'm trying to give the marina the benefit of the doubt but, many disconnect the hose going to the water pumps and tie the hose up high during winterization. This keeps the water away from the seawater pump. If the hose(s) were not reattached prior to starting the motors it would burn the impeller up.
