87 24' Sea Ray with 5.7L OMC Cobra. After running at full throttle the engine bogs down and won't go over 1000 RPM. When out and rode in bilge while problem occured. At WOT the engine bogs to about 1000 RPM then comes back to about 2500RPM. Proceeds to go up and down for a couple minutes before getting worse. There's been a couple tanks of gas run through so far this year, I'm looking at 1)rebuilding carb 2)filling tank and putting in fuel stabalizer. Does anyone know if points will cause anything? I read another post where the guy said it boged down after 1000RPM and point gap was the cause.

if all else is normal' check fuel filters and fuel pump. engine could be getting enough gas a low revs but not at higher revs.

I've already checked the water seperator and removed the filter in the carb. I found no sediment or trash so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else had any ideas<br />Thanks,Mark

You need to check the fuel pump. there are two measurements to take, one is pressure which varies from one model to another and more importantly, volume, which can be checked by disconnecting the fuel line from the carb, installing an appropriate size flexible hose to it and put the end in a quart size container. start the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. the container should be close to half full. if not check for any kinks or clogs in line, if line is good replace fuel pump ........good luck and have fire ext. close at hand just to be safe
