So once in the water, a spin on the boat to check the engines went well at low speeds, with a little noise from the stbd fuel pump. But trying to accelerate, the stbd engine barely reaches 2000 rpm and the boat wouldn't go on plane...The port engine had a new high pressure fuel pump last year, for a similar symptom...now the stbd side acted up....and the pump screeched and whinned on the way bact to the dock. After changing the fuel filters, the fuel pump is quiet but the engine slows down once it reaches about 2500 rpm under load, repeatedly. It can go above 3000 in neutral at the dock, but not in gear....

2500 rpm rings suspiciously of engine protection mode, but I don't know if a bad fuel pressure can trigger it. I have read that either a low oil pressure or an overheat alarm can trigger EPM or safe mode, bot there is nothing regarding fuel...and there is no audible beep to indicate EPM was triggered.

Should I bother to ask the mechanic to check the engine ECM codes or just have him replace the pump? It could add $$ to the job.

Any advice?
