5.7 over heats at idle?

have an 86 searay 268 weekender with a 350. Got the boat out of winter storage last night.At an idle the boat temp goes up to 220 deg. If i take the engine up to 1500 rpm's the temp drops right down to 145 deg.I'm thinking the impellor in the out drive is shot

not so...... i am having same problem and have just taken off sterndrive to do all bellows etc and on opening water pump my impellor was fine (but i have replaced anyway) but i have also found a big tear in the water pipe on the bell housing which hopefully will cure mine so dont always expect it to be the impellor but it dont hurt to check it

The impeller is the FIRST thing you check on any overheat.
