So I got a 5.7 engine from a 1998 Silverado that I’m rebuilding, the truck cam in it is roller and flawless so I’m thinking about using it. My question is how much performance difference would there be between the truck cam and a factory marine cam? I have the specs truck is 415/428 lift 196/191 duration lobe 111 vs mercruiser 430/450 lift 197/207 duration, 109 lobe. It’s going on a 2001 Godfrey 24ft pontoon that had a 3.0l in it, yes I have everything including the drive for the swap. If it’s only a few horses I won’t change it, any thoughts?

Thanks, that saves about $400 for a new roller cam
Good deal. I assume you know that you will need to swap out for marine head gaskets, brass freeze plugs, and use a Marine water pump? Also use the elctrical and fuel components that are marine rated .

that should be a nice power upgrade

The engine is being bored now and I did order the marine gasket kit, and brass freeze plugs. The externals like fuel system harness and such are from a donor boat I’m parting out, got a boat that a rod went through the side of the block for $300 with a salt water trailer , and fully dressed engine and drive unit. Shopping for boats in the winter is the best!

Sounds like you are all dialed in good deal on the prop to pulley tear out. I did a similar repower a few years back , bought a great condition boat with known cracked block. Enjoyed the project and saved a bunch of money. Put some pics when u get it done
