My 2001 VP GSI will start right up, run from 30 seconds to 10 minues at idle, the surges and dies. Replaced the fuel water filter. Changed out the high pressure fuel pump, the master computer, and the 2 front sensors to the throttle body injectors. Cleaned the spark arrestor. Cleaned TBI with injector cleaner.

The other engine runs fine. Anybody have any ideas?

More troubleshooting or parts swapping between engines might have paid off before you went and replaced everything, but on my 4.3 the LOW pressure fuel pump was the culprit. Mine didn't fail gradually, tho- the engine surged and died and the pump was toast. I'd swap it between the 2 motors and see if the problem follows the pump.

Thanks. We thought of that, but will try a couple of things first as the low pressure fuel pump requires a complete replacement of the pump assembly ($800). Another person recommended we check the engine coolant sensor. Had a similar problem. Worth a try. Thanks again.
