5.7L engine

I have a 1978 19' Renken 5.7L that has outdrive problems (white outdrive). I would like to remove the 5.7L motor and install it in a 1994 Wellcraft Eclipse that has a blown 5.0L engine. Should I buy the Wellcraft (nice boat-cheap), or is this engine swap not a good idea? <br />The Wellcraft has power steering, and a mercury alpha outdrive. Neither engine is fuel injected.<br /><br />Any advice is greatly appreciated.

same block, bigger bores. no reason why not.

Splines should be the same but flywheel maybe different. I know in automotive applications the cranks were different after 1987 (switch to one peice rear main).<br /><br />-- Joe
