I need some help here. Ive got a 1998 5.7L Model 4311025LS Thunderbolt 5 ignition that will not start. Ive owned this boat for 8 years without a single hiccup. Fixing to sell and took out last weekend to run it out, no problems at all. Hooked up to ear muffs last night and it would not start. It will crank over and fire, rev up then die.I usually put throttle in half way position when starting. It will start and rev up like its good to go then die. I disconnected fuel line at carburator and turned key over and gas came out of line ok. I'm not sure if this is fuel or electrical related. Possibly cap and rotor? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Sounds very much like a lack of fuel --

Is the choke working?

Does the accelerator pump fuel after if dies -- If not the fuel is not making it to the float bowl

Will it run longer with starter fluid being sprayed down the barrels ?

Not much longer using that stuff, gas in a squirt bottle works better than ether

Haha. Nightmare. That said, it shouldn’t have fired at all if it was the kill switch.

Actually, that's a good point. I don't notice at first that he said it revved and then died. When my kill switch accidentally was engaged, the engine would turn over but not fire.

That’s what is should do really. Just turn over. And never fire. I do this to build oil pressure at the first start of every season.
