This motor is great. It sat for almost 2 years with out being started. Earlier this week I decided to see if it would even crank, It started right up! :)

Problem: I took it to the lake today started right up. in neutral i could open it up. Once it is in gear I am not able to pull a skier out of the water because it sounds like it's choking when I "floor it". I can get it up to plane slowly and cruise about 30 - 35 but it bogs.

My first thought is the fuel might be bad after sitting, but if the fuel is bad why would I be able to rev it up in neutral? The other problem is after being out for about 30 minutes it started to miss, that to me sounds like a fuel issue.

If there is water in the fuel how do I get it out, and what can I do about the bogging problem?

First, pump out all the old fuel and put in new. 2 years is too long.

Also, have someone hit the throttle repeatedly, engine off, while you look down the carb. You should see fuel squirt into the carb throat. If not, your carb needs a rebuild.

Replace the fuel/water separator/filter. It's on the engine, in the front, about the size of a typical oil filter.

If you plan to keep this boat you should get a factory OMC-written service manual.

I have checked to fuel going into the carb and it seems to be fine. Thanks for the tips. I didnt even know about the fuel/water separator. I will check that out! Thanks for the help.

it's a bit surprising that it even started with 2 year old fuel. definately get rid of that fuel, check and/or replace the plugs. the motor will run fine in neutral because there is no load on it. meaning it doesn't have to work to stay running. for example, if you stand over a spot you want to dig a hole, but don't actually start digging, you're not gonna use much energy or require "fuel". but if you start digging, your muscles start working, become a bit sore, and you require more "fuel" to go and keep going. if that makes sense.

Also depending on the age, check you igniton system... Points, cap, condensor, rotor.... Mine ran great in the driveway as well, but didn't have enough spark to run under load, also after sitting a couple years.
I'd guess thats effecting your engine more than the gas. At least that was my experience.
