The weather was nice enough on Saturday to go ahead and pull my flat-hyd lifter cam, and install the marine roller cam. I wanted to get this all buttoned-up, before going ahead with the vortec head & 4brl carb install. It turns out, it is hard to find the roller cam fuel pump push rod, locally.

Mercruiser Dealer: Discontinued part, no cross to GM or other. He seemed rather surprised because part was still used in '97. He is continuing the search though.

NAPA: Could only find the standard fuel pump push rod.

GM Dealer: Can't help without a specific vehicle or specific part number. He did a quick try on an '88 truck. (felt like I was talking to Autozone)

Did find a Crane and Comp Cams part for steel cams (bronze tip). Also found it buried on the Jeg's and Summit websites, once I had a part number. I will have to wait though, with the order of the heads and intake, which is about a week away.

Anyone have a GM or NAPA part number?

Doug Russell list 2 different part #'s the 35377 rod is the common rod used in the older small block applications. The other # is 821150, and I looked it up for a 5.7LX (4 BBL) GM 350 V-8 1997 which list a flat tappet and a roller cam.

The 821150 is what I gave to the Mercruiser dealer, but Mercruiser has discontinued it. The Dealer's Merc System won't show availabilty, price, or cross to other part. When I looked it up on Mercruiserparts.com, it said limited supply. :(

At this point, the only chance of a local supply is a GM or NAPA part number, and that is assuming they would have on shelf.

On the aftermarket ones for steel/roller crankshafts, they have a bronze tip to not wear out the cam lobe. I'd assume that the GM/Merc ones would be similiar, but don't know for sure.

That 821150 shows as a good number in Mercs price book and shows active.
You could also get it from Volvo. The PN is 3852112 and is a good number also. Used on the 97 Carbed engines.

Thanks Don,

I will have to check if we have a Volvo dealer in the area, and try another Merc dealer, too.

I am a little surprised, because this dealer has been good to me. They seemed to be looking it up on the system when they reported the info to me. They also did a call back after contacting someone at Merc. Hmmm, we'll see if he continues with a further callback.

I was gonna say the same as Don did about the Volvo Part #. Volvo superceded the old number with the new number 3852112 which made me question a difference.

Are you sure that the cam is steel. Most cams for SBC engines are cast and don't need the bronze stuff.

Eddie,

As far as I know, roller cams are steel, flat lifter cams are cast. Might be an exception somewhere, but not between the two marine cams in this discussion.
