Hello,

I have a 1998 Maxum SR2300 with a 5.7L V8 Mercruiser (CARB).

The other day pulling into the Marina I was shifting back and forth between Rev and Fwd and it stalled. I dont know if this event is related at all, but I have not been able to get it to run since.

The day before this issue, I replaced the Fuel Water Seperator and changed out the oil and ran it for a couple hours. But now when I turn the key it sounds like it wants to fire but it never does (except I get small puffs of exhaust).

There is about a 1/4 of a tank a gas and I am getting fuel into the CARB when I push down the throttle. I pulled off the fuel water seperator and dumped the gas into a glass jar, but could not identifiy any odor or seperation. I replaced the spark plugs and I am getting spark to them.

If any one has any suggestions or comments I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

well...it sounds like your going to have to do some trouble shooting...pardon if I dumb this down some but I really don't know what experience you have...
.the thing to check is the choke fully open when it was warm...now that it's sat for a few days...when you try to start it....is it fully closed....is your cold starting procedure to pump 3 times....in neutral....then push fwd 1/4 fwd again in neutral...???
is the emergency cut off switch been accidently turned off..???....on the engine ..there is this huge plug that attaches the engine to the boat harness....make sure those connections are clean and the plug is pushed all the way in.......
in the front of the carb, the fuel line attaches to the carb....there is a filter right there where the line screws into the carb....pull that off and check for debris...
finally...the last thing I can think of is in the fuel tank there is a pickup screen..if that is clogged up ..then no fuel will get up there....
oh yeah..also check the vent....if the vent is blocked..no gas will get up to the carb....

I had a similar problem on my Maxum 3300 SCR. I was cruising across the water about 30 MPH when suddenly the port motor shut down. It would crank and crank but would not fire. I had to limp home on one engine. Turns out it was an ignition sensor. The Merc part # is 87-861780Q4. Funny, when I googled it a link popped up for this site. They carry the same part aftermarket by Mallory. That part # is 9-29804 and iboats price is $46.99. I would Double check the part 3's before ordering tho if I were you. Your boat is a 98, mine is an 04. Hope this helps.
