Mornin All ... I've got a seawater cooled 1994 Mercruiser 5.7L (Ser OF124711) that is leaking ever so slightly from the engine mounted water circulating pump (not the outdrive impeller).

It looks to be coming from behind the pulley and leaks about 1 cup per hour. This is a new problem for this spring!

My question ... is this a worn bearing/bushing issue (replace the pump) or am I missing something?

Thanks for the help!

Be sure you get a marine pump since you have a raw water cooled system. Automotive pumps don't fair very well in those circumstances.

Don't ignore the leak.If the bearing in the pump goes, things can get interesting.
Auto pumps .... NO WAY..

DHP

Pete,

New pump (-17437), about $125, from www.mercruiserparts.com (I'd pay about $600 in Oz). If you can find a source of seals and have access to a press, you could repair it for about $20.

Chris...........

the pumps on those engines were defective replace with a new or rebuilt pump
by the way merc would not admit to defect but volvo/penta did
