I have 2 almost dead batteries that I plan to replace. I wanted to turn over engine so I jumped the batteries with dads car. Once the engine was running I pulled the jumpers. Engine ran for about 20 minutes before I shut it off. I put the jumpers back on since I was planning to run it again. Jumped for about 10 minutes. When I turn the key I got nothing, nada, zilch not even a click or a moan. I was confused so I did the old school thing and jumped the solenoid with a long screw driver and the engine made an attempt to turn over. I took the tool away and went back to the key. The key was now working fine. It took a few attempts to get her started, timing is off, but the key worked and the engine started.
I did this 2 more times with the same results. Every time I shut down the key stops working and after a quick terminal jump the key works..
I have not known solenoids to be intermittent so any and all advice is welcome.
New cables and all connections have been cleaned and coated for anti corrosion as usual.
