I have a 1989 omc 5.8 just replaced spark plugs and installed new quadrojet carb . Fuel is geting to carb and bat is brand new . Starter turns and turns but won't even play like it wants to start. 2,of the freeze plugs are out at the bottom of engine under motor mounts. I thek it should still start with those out ? I took the plugs off of distributer and ty had an oily substance in them .should i replace starter coil and distrib. Also could I use the thunderbolt ignition off of a mercruiser.

Howdy,

(they're NOT Freeze Plugs. They're indicators of "Freeze-Damage" Plugs!! )

If you have 2 core-plugs in sitting in the bilge, you should put them back in and pressure check the block.

You're wasting your time trying to get that engine running if it has a cracked block.

5.8 liter engine is a Ford product. Quadrajet carburetor is a General Motors product. If you're using the two together you've got a Frankenstein.

That sucks about the carb. The guy told me he recommended the quadrojet over the Holley. He sent all of the conversions. Should i use it or try and send it back.
