Hello everyone, i tried a search but i really didnt find the answer i was hoping for.

Would swapping from a carb intake to an EFI intake be worth the power/fuel savings/reliability from carb.

I know there is a reason why cars went from carb to fuel injection but when i plan on rebuilding the carb 5.7L in the next couple of years i want to start exploring the options for intake swap.

Thank you

If you are talking about changing the complete fuel system from carb to EFI, definite benefits. But if you are talking about changing just the intake (putting a carb on an EFI intake), then it can't be done...

Ayuh,... As Chris said, it takes more than Just an intake manifold...

'n while it Is an improvement, the pay-back shouldn't take more than a couple of life times...

no i was referring to the whole setup. I just dont know if there is a package deal or have to piece together the swap. Im still in need info about what it takes cause im looking to find out what the cost is. Thats the biggest factor, whats the inital cost of the swap then i can figure out the answer "is it worth it"

That would be a very expensive thing to do, and you wouldn't save enough money in gas savings to every pay for the parts alone. There are some aftermarket marine EFI systems, but they are't really that good from what I have heard. To go OEM Mercruiser would cost a fortune in parts to piece it together.

after looking it crazy how a car ECM and parts are decently affordable but marine parts are always more. Im under the impression i should stick with carb until i upgrade boats then look for a boat with a ECM system and start then. Well i was hoping a used ECM setup was affordable and i could make the swap but it looks like its a good $1k+ so..... rebuilding carbs is cheaper for now

The ECM alone costs more that $1000, the 555 ecm used by Mercruiser lists for around $1700, then you need manifold, injectors (they are expensive) sensors, wiring, ....................................

Hi all new member but thought id add my .02..
Atomic EFI - Atomic makes EFI easier than easy

Looks like an awsome set up, brand new and complete with tuning..

A couple of small issues with these units. They all require O2 sensors. Where do you suggest they be installed in a wet exhaust system? And secondly they have a separate fuel pump. I suspect it's not marine certified...

And that's my 0.02

i agree with achris, this is not a simple solution for marine application
