I have a SeaPro 180 cc with a 90 HP Yamaha. The transom lip that the Yamaha is clamped to is only in the center so I must bolt a mount to the starboard side of the transom to mount my 20" shaft kicker (swim ladder on port side).

I have researched different mounts/brackets and steering options and the prices range by hundreds of dollars. I just want a basic mount and an ez-steer type setup. Any suggestions with link/cost would be a greatly appreciated.

Also- I think the remote systems that include throttle and steering at the console are way more than I want to spend ($500+ from what I have seen)

Nice looking family you got there. Did you trade-in the old dining room table for the new boat? That pic by your name must be pretty old. You've put on some weight since then. ;)

Your boat has a composite transom. I don't know if it's full width. This might be a good choice, although rather large for the motor. Not really what it's intended for, but it would be more than strong enough. You'd need 1' high x 1-1/2' wide area to mount to. click

I find that retractable brackets are invariably klunky and floppy . But they work.

Re: 5 HP Kicker Mount & Steering Suggestions

I just ordered a 5HP Tohatsu kicker for my boat. What is the most economical transom mount, steering link (like ez steer), and remote throttle (like trollmaster) setup I can get? Prices are all over the board and I don't know where to begin.

Re: 5 HP Kicker Mount & Steering Suggestions

I built my own link out of a zinc coated rod I used a die on to thread for a heim joint on each end. One end is permanently mounted on the main motor, the other end quick connects to the kicker. The kicker end quick connects to a dummy post on the main motor when not in use. I was too cheap at the time to get an EZ Steer. If you don't mind spending the cash, the EZ Steer is the way to go, as it is brainless once mounted. Couldn't tell you about the throttle control, you should just get the best one you can afford or are willing to spend. Isn't there a Tohatsu control you can get?

Re: 5 HP Kicker Mount & Steering Suggestions

I decided to not buy the $200 ez steer as it does not seem worth it...looks a little sloppy with the hose clamps, etc...

I ended up getting a Panther stainless connecting rod that connects the two motors and has ball joints to allow one up and one down. Much better looking a much cheaper (30 bucks!)

As far as the mount...I got an adjustable Panther mount that can hold 20HP for about 100 bucks.

It looks like my options are limted with remote throttle control...Read some bad reviews on the Trollmaster so I am hesitant to purchase...Many complained it rained and that killed the circuit since they are not waterproof...If that is the case, what were they thinking making a non-waterproof controller for a boat.
