Have a 5HP Scott Atwater serial # 3775-5150 has forward neutral and reverse. Motor runs real well except for last Friday night. Overheated and quit running. I removed the water pump and checked - impellers look good. There are two small holes just above the propeller assembly on the lower unit that started seeping a dark foamy oily fluid. I thought that maybe the tube that runs water through pump to engine came off at bottom and was sucking a mixture of gas/oil/water through engine. Also when I took off water pump, it looks to have keyed impellers but all i found when I took it apart were two roller bearing looking things that had fallen into the housing. The shaft isn't exactly keyed - has larger slots, is that what runs the impellers?

Yes they are drive pins for the impeller, back in the 50s and 60s I worked for a dealer, those Bail a Matic's could be a nightmare when you could get parts for them

I have another 5Hp Scott thats a 56, so far parts have not been a problem. Is there a trick to getting them in?

Thanks For the quick responses laddies. When I pulled off the lower unit and suction for water pump - there were no gaskets. Should there be any gaskets down on the lower end?

I don't really remember but there are grommets on the water tubes and o-ring in some of the pumps, you need to replace or seal them up good to make it pump properly---Bob
