5 HP ???

Hi I have an 17' sport craft open fisherman, can I used a 2002 2 stroke 5 HP as a kicker would it be enough going against the current on the inlet and the ocean?<br />Any help or idea I really appreciated.<br />Thank you

I have a whaler 17 with 5 2003 5hp kicker and I do like only 8 mph in calm waters

You ever used it against the current? It sound good 8 Mph in calm water if I can get 4 mph against the current in the inlet that will be ok for me, as long as I can come in thru the inlet that is all I’m worry about.<br />Thank you

Hello<br />Do you mean to take a 17 footer out in the ocean with only a 5 horse kicker,or is there a real engine on that boat as well?<br />Reason I am asking is that you very much want a 40 or bigger in case you get caught in heavy winds or nasty waves you may have to cut across.<br />just wondering..

Hi, I have a 90hp but about a week a go 90hp quit on me and I was out about 3 miles out , I decide to buy a kicker and I got a grated deal in a 5hp 2002. I just want to use it in case of emergency. Just to be safe but the current in the inlet is really strong and I just wonder if the 5hp is going to be enough to go against the current <br /><br />Thank you

Serpentine! Serpentine! <br /><br />6Hp got a 12ft aluminum boat w/2adults and 4 kids across the bay with currents. Just don't expect anything quick. It will take time.<br /><br />Have everyone wear life vests.<br /><br />Just my $.02
