5 sp f150 ~99-2000 model, what is towing capacity

looking at getting one and keeping the pilot, several on craigs list for $3500-5000 with v6 5 speed and 100k miles. just want to tow ~4500# boat/trailer and save the pilot. just a thought

Not many V6 5 speeds are equipped with tow packages, Bama. They may be rated as low as 3500lb.

You need to read the rating from the plate in the doorjamb, and don't tow that rig with anything rated below about 7,000lb.

you will not be happy with a V6 towing that weight. what's the Tide, doing in Gator Country?

I have a 99 with the v-6 and the 5speed. I think the rating is neat 3800#s.

I have towed our 18.5' fish-n-ski with no problem but it isn't near 4500#s. Maybe 2800# or so.

The V-6 has plenty of power its the crappy 5 speed ford uses. I had to have a new one put in at 35,000 miles. Lucky the second one is still doing okay at 142,000. I just did a clutch job.

The Key to towing with the 4.2 V-6 and the 5 speed is you have to push it to about 4000-4400 rpm in each gear so that when you up shift you are still in the power band. You can really feel it start making power from 2600 rpm and up.

you get into the Florida Mountians, between you and northwest of Orlando, you will know why is say you won't be happy, you may be down to 2nd or 3rd.
