My neighbor, who is also my dentist, has a 50 Evinrude, early '90ish. Starts and runs fine, but when he turns the key off, it just keeps running. He has to disconnect the fuel line to get it to cut off. He replaced the keyswitch, but that didn't fix it. Probobly a loose wire somewhere, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Black wire with yellow stripe is the kill circuit.

my johnson is equiped with a so called kill wire it is a black and yellow wire going to the engine.ex. my oil had water in it i didnt know this. the motor would not start ot fire. after researching finding out that black and yellow wire was a safety device so you dont burn your motor up. i cut it on both side i have a 4 cyclinder. it started right up...when i went to shut it off it wouldnt. i had to ground that wire out. in order to stop the engine..im no pro. but i hope this advice helps you in the right direction.

On the back of the ignition switch he should have a BLACK going to a post labeled M, and a black/yellow going to the other M post. If he touches the B/Y while the engine's running, he'll lose every filling in his mouth, plus never be constipated again. With the engine shut off, Ohm the two wires to make sure they're grounded.
